【Product Story】

V.S CLASSIC: THE V.S IS BOTH THE OLDEST AND THE YOUNGEST OF OUR COGNACS.
The oldest, because it is the closest to our first eau de vie, created by our ancestor Bonaventure Godet in La Rochelle, on the west coast of France, in the 16th century. It is also the youngest, because it is aged for 2 to 3 years in our cellars along the Atlantic coast. It is the first cognac. It pays tribute to a visionary adventurer, who was one of the founders of cognac, and to his creative know-how. With his copper still, he shared the distillation techniques he had learned from the Arabs, by sea. The quality of this eau de vie quickly received King Henry IV of France’s seal of approval. In 1588, he sent a letter to Bonaventure to congratulate him on his Brandewijn, burnt (distilled) wine, the precursor of Brandy and Cognac. “Carefully aged in barrels, the masculine woodiness blends with floral and sweet berry aromas; sensual and ever so slightly elusive, this is the Godet style.”

V.S.O.P ORIGINAL: AGED IN OAK CASKS FOR 4 TO 9 YEARS IN OUR OCEAN CELLARS, THE VSOP IS THE EXPRESSION OF WOOD NOTES] IN OUR COGNACS. CREATED BY WOOD AND BY TIME.
This cognac is a reminder of when our ancestors began to age their eaux de vie in oak barrels in La Rochelle on the west of France, before these barrels travelled for several months at sea. This aging stage gives them all the natural sweetness still present today. At this time, these matured cognacs were tasted using a small wooden or metal goblet without a stem or handle; “kodde” in Dutch, “godet” in French. Over time, drinking from this glass became a ritual, to such a degree that the colloquial expression “boire un godet” (drink a goblet) became commonplace in French to describe sharing a cognac with friends. An allusion to the gathering of seafarers, who lived in La Rochelle between land and sea, in our Saint Nicolas district, our VSOP cognac can be quietly drunk on the harbour quay or on the deck of a boat. Our coat of arms with three goblets, bestowed on us in 1699 under Louis XIV, is affixed to each of our bottles and echoes the origins of the Godet House and the conviviality of the harbour of La Rochelle. “The characteristics of this cognac are well integrated tannins combined with a slightly floral nose. Tinges of hazelnut and peach jam create a suave and mellow cognac.”

X.O FINE CHAMPAGNE: A BLEND OF TWO ICONIC CHAMPAGNE WINES: GRANDE AND PETITE.
Matured in oak barrels and blended facing the ocean in La Rochelle, in the west of France, it retains the Atlantic character inherited from our forebears. It conjures up long merchant expeditions on the Atlantic Ocean, the English Channel and the Baltic, and our family’s strong bond with the sea and the countries of the Hanseatic League. This earned Gédéon-Louis Godet an appointment as Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Dutch Navy in the 18th century. “Strong, complex and heavy with a violet nose and a scent of jasmine and a fruity hint of prune, honey and Russian leather in the mouth. Very long “old cognac” mouthfeel but with fresh subtle aromas.”
