Olivier Sublett's family has been producing wines in Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux, since 1822. When he getting closer to retirement, he looked for a new hobby, choosing to make his own version of rice wine. Sublett did this by substituting a combination of red, black and white rice for grapes. "The Chinese have been making rice wine for about 9,000 years, but that can't stop me, I'm French, so I'm arrogant. I'm from Bordeaux, so I'm top of the podium for that," said Sublett. Le GuiShu using French rice and it comes as: Assemblage, Non Filre and Umami. The label also featured the French artist Tom Garcia with Chinese painting style, which also show the creative blend of East and West.
Olivier SUBLETT
Creator of Le Guishu, comes from a family of wines growers of Bordeaux since 1822. Among other things, his ancestor received the medal of agricultural merit for having participated in the replanting of French vineyards after the Phylloxera disease at the end of the 19th century. Olivier SUBLETT, at the age of 5, was already harvesting with his little basket and his scissors, in his parent’s vineyards of the Saint Emilion area. With the Guishu, he is using now his skills to ferment the rice from Camargue.
La Camargue
The different rice; red, brown, black, white, wild … are grown in Camargue which is a regional park, in the western part of Provence. Situated in the delta of the Rhône river, it has a long coast along the Mediterranean sea. It is the biggest reservation of flamingos, but also many other species of birds are living there. Among many things, Camargue is famous for the white horses which are everywhere with the cows. Camargue is also called the French cow-boys country.
