【Product Story】

Perhaps the Munros of Scotland are new to you, but the collective title The Munros is used to identify the 282 mountains in Scotland that are over 3,000 feet (914.4 metres) above sea level and, to regular visitors to Scotland, the names Ben Nevis, Ben Lomond, Schiehallion, Buachaille Etive Mòr, Lochnagar conjure thoughts and memories of the Highlands of Scotland. The title The Munros is named after Sir Hugh T Munro who surveyed and catalogued them in 1891. For experienced walkers, climbing or “bagging” all 282 mountains is a great challenge but the reward of seeing some of Scotland’s finest scenery is very worthwhile. In selecting the name The Munros for our most special collection of Single Malt Cask Strength Scotch Whisky bottlings we are harking back to the 282 summits of Scotland. Whatever drams we select to join our collection have been approved bythe two owners of our company, drawing on their combined experience of over 80 years of selecting and bottling some of the finest Scotch Whiskies. Like the noble mountains of Scotland we bring you the noble Single Malt Scotch Whiskies of Scotland. Like the mountains, these Scotch Whiskies bring different characters and styles to the collection. Some are gentle, warm and inviting and some are powerful, rugged and untamed. This is one of the marvels of Single Malt Scotch Whisky, that the region of Scotland in which the distillery is situated can often impart a uniqueness of style, aroma and flavour – that will bring strong reactions and emotions from connoisseurs and consumers. Similar to the Scotch Whiskies from the various regions, so the mountains and scenery will vary from west to east and from north to south. Scotland is a small country with the mainland being only 270 miles from north to south and at its widest 150 miles but has a coastline of nearly 6,160 miles due to the many sea lochs carved deeply into the West Coast. Scotland also has over 900 offshore islands and when these are added to the mainland the combined coastline totals 10,250 miles. Due to the small size of the country the influence of the surrounding sea has a major impact on the climate, the farming and the lifestyle. This superb example of The Munros was distilled at the Macallan Distillery and filled into cask on 26th January 1989. It is a glorious example of the Macallan and has been bottled from the cask at its natural strength which is now 49.1% volume. There has been no water or colour added and the spirit has received minimal filtration in order to retain the maximum fullness of character, aroma and flavour. The darkness of colour is solely from the influence of the sherry wood cask in which this Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been matured.
